All that work just for a few more cup holders….

All that work just for a few more cup holders….

So after the trial fit, I took the boxes home to get sanded, stained, clear coated, cut the holes for the cup holders and then took it back to the RV and installed it.  The lot was very hot, outside was close to 100 degrees, but I kicked on the generator and with all three A/C units running, it was cooled down to a more tolerable level.  I took a bunch of stuff from the house including one of the…

Some maintenance and coach upgrades

Some maintenance and coach upgrades

While working and waiting until November to finally retire and get on with the full time RV life, I needed to attend to some simple maintenance items.  First up was the generator needed its first oil change.  The Onan 10KW generator is a three cylinder diesel engine and required a oil change after the first 50 hours.  After the weekends at National Harbor I had racked up about 53 hours so I figured I might was well do this simple…

Even when “Glamping” you still need bug repellent

Even when “Glamping” you still need bug repellent

So in all reality we are not really camping, more like Glamping, a glamorous way of camping in a fully enclosed luxurious house on wheels.  That being said, what I have learned is the the bug and insects that would bother you when your were really camping outdoors in a tent, don’t really care that you have moved up to this “Glamping” mode.  They are still here, waiting to chew the crap out of you nerveless.  Last week it was…

Initial Fulltiming Deployment Planning…

Initial Fulltiming Deployment Planning…

So we plan to leave DC once I retire on 15 November 2016 and head south.  So as a starting point we plan to be near my brother’s house in Jacksonville Florida for Thanksgiving as one port of call.  The end of the deployment will be at my Mom’s and Sister’s place in Joshua Tree, California by my birthday in mid February.  So what do we do in between, what port of calls do we want to make?  What do…

Ouch, the bright lights….

Ouch, the bright lights….

So, with all the added equipment in the bedroom electronics, we have created a problem that I needed to address.  I added some power strips, the Hopper and Joey, a HDMI switch and what did that all add up to?  Well, heat is a good guess and yep I am sure that is part, but the real bothersome thing is all the devices have some bright LED indicators and with the front of the cabinet having louvres, it added some…

40 years ago this week

40 years ago this week

So this is a big week for me, 40 years ago, in 1976, a young man just out of high school stepped off a bus in San Diego. Awoken the next morning to the sound of a metal trash can being thrown down a barracks passageway, a loud voice yakking at the top of his lungs to get our of the “rack” and hit the “deck”…. I joined the United States Navy wanting to learn about nuclear power and ride…

In a text centric world…

In a text centric world…

So early on I added a way to use email so folks can sign up and get automatic email notifications when I post something to the Blog, and a few number of folks have signed up for this service.  But recently, I was talking to a family friend who basically does not use email at all, she is more often than not using text to communicate. As I thought about my kids, text seems to be the easiest way to…

Rearrangement of living space…

Rearrangement of living space…

One of the options that I included in my order for the RV, I found by copying what someone else did and posted on the Tiffin RV forum on the internet.  The changes was to have two horizontal windows behind the couch to allow future rearrangement of the couch and recliner if I wanted to do that…. Here is what the original Bus 37AP couch/chair slide out window arrangement looked like, with one horizontal and one vertical window, with the…

Cue the girls, entering stage right….

So our two wonderful Wesites have yet to see their new home.  Since we had to go pick up the RV and all the stress and logistics involved, Cathy’s sister Tina said she would board the girls up north in NH for about two months I think it ended up being.  They had a big yard to run around in, squirrels and chipmunks to chase and get some lovin while we were busy with the RV.  They are now home…

Water Problem, no longer a problem

Water Problem, no longer a problem

Quick update is the Service Facility was able to find a 180 degree twist in the hoses, somewhere under the bed.  Tiffin was great in getting me piping diagrams to send to the service facility and Tuesday I got the call the Rig was fixed, a total of 6 hours was needed to find the twist @$110/hour…Tiffin will be covering the cost so not a big deal, but next time I might just figure it out and save myself the…
