Arches National Park

Arches National Park

The great thing about the town of Moab is it’s proximity to Arches National Park.  We were able to make a few trips into the park and as our usual practice, leave the park on the less traveled 4×4 trail.  First up was a hike to Delicate Arch to witness sunset… On the next trip we drove through the entire park and took a few small hikes. So even though we were here two weeks we did not get in…

Moab, a 4×4 adventure, Part 2

Moab, a 4×4 adventure, Part 2

Without further ado, here is the second part covering Moab.  First, lets talk about food, Moab has the best old school hamburger stand called Milt’s Stop & Eat.  Fresh hamburger grilled right before your eyes with fresh garnishes..yum is all I can say.  If ever in town, just go….   We did some additional trails, one was Onion Creek, an 8 mile drive back into a canyon, crossing the creek several times with a separate road to Fisher Towers.  First…

Moab, a 4×4 adventure, Part 1

Moab, a 4×4 adventure, Part 1

We settled into Moab, Utah for a nice two week stay at one of the nicest resorts yet, Portal RV Resort.  The back section is privately owned and gets rented out when the owners are not using it.  It has a separate pool, hot tub, dog park from the normal campground side, it landscaped and nice huge cement pads for the RV and any toys you bring, which we saw a lot of.  We scored a great spot, right across…

Back Door Into Canyonlands National Park

Back Door Into Canyonlands National Park

The nice thing about the Jeep is it allows you to travel the road less traveled.  In this case, we took the back door 4×4 road into the park, starting in the valley floor with the Colorado River running through it and them climbing thousands of feet to the rim.  I had been wanting to meet up with Erik from www.rvwanderlust.com, he is a retired Coast Guard Chief and is full timing with his wife Brittney and their 17 month…

Monument Valley, Home of John Wayne….

Monument Valley, Home of John Wayne….

Well, not really, but he loved Monument Valley and it was where five of his western films were made, starting with Stagecoach in 1939 and with the pictures below you can see why. Many more movies were filed in Monument Valley… Anyway, if you want to know more about the movies filmed here…Google it or go to Wikipedia….Back to all about us…. We stayed in the RV park which is really nothing more than gravel pads with picnic tables, no…

Quick Stop in Page, Az

Quick Stop in Page, Az

After our wonderful visit to Bryce Canyon, we stopped by Page, Az for a few days.  Page is near Lake Powell and is near the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area which surrounds the Lake and connects to the Grand Canyon National Park.  The Lake is more like a huge reservoir along the Colorado River up into Utah.  The Lake is like 120 miles long from Page.  The only other access point by paved road is in Bullfrog/Halls Crossing which is…

Bryce Canyon…Most Scenic Hike To Date

Bryce Canyon…Most Scenic Hike To Date

After the fantastic scenery of Zion, I was wondering how Bryce Canyon would be.  A better comparison would be the Grand Canyon, since Bryce Canyon has the sightseeing from the rim and your hikes take you down into the canyon and then you return back up to the rim.  WE stayed just a mile outside the Park at Ruby’s Inn and RV Park, which was established by a family who settled in the area in the early 1900’s, was showed…

Is Zion more scenic than Yosemite National Park?

Is Zion more scenic than Yosemite National Park?

Interesting question I started asking myself after just a few days being near Zion National Park.  Both are surrounded by vertical cliffs, both have been built in the Valley with hikes taking in the sights. Zion is much more contained, the Valley is a fraction of the size of Yosemite.  The difference comes down to the colors.  The Granite of Yosemite is mostly a grey hue, with different colors around that color palate.   Zion being in Utah, has the red…
