Catching up with U-Tube Creators, Derek and Hannah

Some we like to have fires in the early evening, but more and more places will on longer allow wood fires, so I finally broke down and got a propane fire pit.  I’ll just have to carry a propane tank, even though nothing on the coach runs on Propane, but at least we can have an evening fire…

While we were in Benson, we got a chance to have dinner with some you tube folks we have followed.  Derek has a U-Tube channel called “Handeeman” which shows the development of a 40 acre plot of land nearby.  He built a tiny house by hand, has built a small compound for it, he is in the middle of building a nice huge garage, and has plans for a future home.  He harvests the rainwater in the desert and also has a fully functional solar system running the property.  He does things with care and thoughtfulness that is impressive, please check it out, he does a great job with it.  Hannah has her own, very popular channel called “High Carb Hannah” that shows how she used a natural vegan lifestyle to lose weight and become more healthy.  They both are our kids ages, but I really like how non-dramatic, open and honest they are on their social media, I highly recommend both of them.  It was great they took the time to meet with us (I knew how much they liked the local mexican restaurant, so it was easy to bribe them…)

We had dinner at a wonderful family run Mexican Restaurant, Mia Casa…man was it great…

I also worked a day helping Derek with his garage build, as he was recovering from a recent surgery.  The garage is being built on a nice concrete slab and is made with pre formed steel tubing from a company called Versa Tube.  I was really surprised on how thick and strong it was.  The garage is like 50×80 feet and walls are 16 foot tall and I suspect the center peake is like 22 feet.  I have seen steel used in commercial building as studs and it was quite flimsy, but this Versa Tuva is really think and much heavier than I imagined.  Here are just a few pictures to share…

Derek put up a U-Tube video which I liked here… Handeeman….if I did it right, but I think the video still has me in the background if you just find his channel.  The girls even make an appearance so make sure you watch it.

We did have a fair amount of rain for several days which slowed down our exploration, but hey we can always return and I hope to help out Derek in the future and visit Mi Casa again as three times in a week was not enough….

next post will cover our tip into NM and our adventures when you try to tow a Jeep on three wheels…as you can guess, it doesn’t do well at all…
