One Year on the Road

One Year on the Road

We have officially reached one year on the Road in our RV.  It is amazing how fast it as gone.  In a year we traveled out to the west coast, spent about 1/2 the year going from Southern California up into Washington, then put the RV on the Ferry to Victoria, British Columbia.  We turned around and headed south back to Southern California.  We jumped across the US to get to the Tiffin Factory in Red Bay, Alabama to get…

Harrisonburg, VA, Part 1

Harrisonburg, VA, Part 1

Well, past due for an update.  We have spent the last month in Harrisonburg, VA, visiting a close Navy friend who has a farm a little south of Harrisonburg and spending time with our daughter and her husband who recently bought a house in downtown Harrisonburg.  We have spent the time visiting, working on my home improvement skills and all around having fun with family and friends.  That is the one thing that has really hit me over the past…

San Diego

San Diego

We are finishing up our week in San Diego.  We stayed at Admiral baker RV park, right near Qualcomm Stadium, just a few miles from downtown and close to everything.  We were able to cross off quite a few items on our want to do list.  First we went to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido.  The animals are in a more open setting mixed together on a savannah with some separate exhibits for those that do not…

Lake Havasu State Park

Lake Havasu State Park

After Lost Dutchman we drove over to lake Havasu, a place I have not been in over 40 years, I remember going and seeing the London Bridge back in early 1970’s after it was installed in 1971.  Not much was there and it was a very small sleepy town.  It has grown up and there is a nice state park right on the lake we stayed at.  So here are some of the pictures of our week, we are able…

Lost Dutchman State Park

Lost Dutchman State Park

We moved from Catalina State Park towards the Phoenix area and into a nearby town of Apache Junction where there is an outstanding state park called Lost Dutchman right at the foot of the Superstition Mountains and you guessed it the location some say of the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine.  This mountain rises out of the desert and is spectacular to see.   Nearby is a old mining town called Goldfield We did grab a quick dinner at the Mammoth…

El Paso and Fort Bliss

El Paso and Fort Bliss

We recently drove to El Paso and stayed a few days at the Fort Bliss RV Campground.  It was right next to the highway, so you did get the noise when sitting outside but the cost was only $114 for the week.  We did have a few days of rain and were able to go to the largest exchange we have seen, it was set up like an outside shopping mall with different companies along with main exchange.  We did…

Vicksburg, Mississippi

Vicksburg, Mississippi

After our service at the Tiffin Service Center, we hit the road and headed to Vicksburg, Mississippi for a few days, I wanted to check out the Vicksburg National Military Park.  The park literally surrounds the town of Vicksburg where the North and South fought a major battle for the control of the Mississippi River.  We spent a few hours touring the area, taking pictures. They had a wonderful display of a iron clad riverboat, the USS Cairo.  While we…

Tiffin Plant Tour

Tiffin Plant Tour

While waiting for service, I got a chance to take the Tiffin Manufacturing plant tour where the Motorhomes are produced.  Tiffin has been building RV’s since the early 1970’s, they were a building supply company and got into the RV manufacturing after some of the companies they supplied exited the business.  Here is a picture of an early model, a gas powered 1976 Allegro.   They have come a long way over the 40 plus years.  The factory tour is…

Trip to Red Bay for Warranty Work

Trip to Red Bay for Warranty Work

So after a great visit with my brother Kevin and his wife Cindy in Ponte Vedra, Florida, we needed to start heading towards Red Bay, Alabama, the home of Tiffin Motorhomes to have some warranty work done.  We decided to first head towards Atlanta and stop by and see Charlie and Kelly, folks we met in Tampa while researching our motorhome.  They also bought a 2016 Tiffin Bus and we seem to have a lot in common. They live on…

99 bottles of beer on the wall….

99 bottles of beer on the wall….

Getting closer to retirement and now that I have hit the magic 99 days, it reminded me of the song “99 bottles of beer on the wall” you take one down and pass it around, 98 beer of bottles on the wall… this is a song we sang while we were growing up and camping as a family, on those long drives, but I don’t remember getting very far on the countdown before we switched to something else. By the…
