Lazy L& L Campground

Lazy L& L Campground

So it has been awhile since I last posted.  After traveling through an unexpected ice storm, which I do not recommended ever doing again in a 40,000 lb RV, the overpasses were especially dicy, we were going like 25 mph on the interstate.  We were about 1/2 way here and although they were putting sand down, it was slow going and way too much white knuckle driving, so next time I will do a better job checking the weather and…

One Year on the Road

One Year on the Road

We have officially reached one year on the Road in our RV.  It is amazing how fast it as gone.  In a year we traveled out to the west coast, spent about 1/2 the year going from Southern California up into Washington, then put the RV on the Ferry to Victoria, British Columbia.  We turned around and headed south back to Southern California.  We jumped across the US to get to the Tiffin Factory in Red Bay, Alabama to get…

British Columbia, Canada mini tour

British Columbia, Canada mini tour

We took the Black Ball Ferry from Port Angeles, WA to Victoria, BC.  It was a tight fit, since the ferry is smaller than the BC Ferries that run from Vancouver to Victoria, but we made a reservation to ensure we got a spot on the ship. We arrived in Victoria and stayed at Fort Victoria RV Park a few miles outside of town.  We were able to use bicycle trails to ride into town, about a 4 mile trek…

Portland, Family and Washington

Portland, Family and Washington

With our repairs complete we were off to Portland to see family, as my older brother Dean and his family that lives in Beaverton, OR.  We had a nice visit and dinner, with Lindsay, his wife, and two of the three kids, Kate and Jennifer, along with Jennifer’s husband, Patrick, and their beautiful daughter Charlotte. We also got to see our nephew, Ryan who lives north of Portland in Vancouver, WA.  We had a great brunch and Ryan got to…

Newport Oregon

Newport Oregon

After our RV repair we headed a little north to the Newport, Oregon area.  Our first night was at a nice State Beach, South Beach State Park.  Nice place with a nice beach nearby.  It was a busy place and was filling up due to the upcoming 4th of July weekend. I messed up when I was moving reservations due to our breakdown and mistakenly cancelled our stay at South Beach so we needed to find another place to stay…

Crescent City and the Down Side of RV Life

Crescent City and the Down Side of RV Life

We have be on the road for 7 Months, and most of all of our experiences have been positive, but as the world turns, we were bound to hit a rough spot at some point.  Well, we finally hit one in Crescent City.  When I was picking sites to stay, I would look at locations, check out reviews and cost as we have a budget to follow.  I picked Bayview RV in Crescent City since it was within the budget…

Back on the road to Yosemite NP

Back on the road to Yosemite NP

So during our stop in Lake Oroville, we made some changes to the RV.  We replaced the air number mattress with a new foam mattress from Amazon.  The air controlled one seems to sag and the two air bladders seemed to not be very comfortable when you were off center.  I looked at Amazon and found a highly rated King memory foam/cooling gel mattress for only $350, so what the heck, let’s give it a try.  What a nice difference,…

San Francisco Part 1

San Francisco Part 1

Our next stop was my older brother’s place in Concord, California.  He has had RV’s in the past and has a driveway leading to a cement pad that goes into his backyard where he used to park his RV.  Our RV wouldn’t fit all the way in the backyard, but 1/2 in and out worked out great, a tight fit, but we have electrical, water and a sewer hook ups.  You cannot beat the free location and being with family makes…

Monterey

Monterey

We spent a week in Monterey and had a great time, with so much to see I need to break up this post into two parts.  First up is the Monterey Aquarium: Next was a tour along the coast down to pebble beach.  Talk about drop dead type of scenery, it was breathtaking….   We also had to deal with a major plumbing issue, the fancy motorized toilet had a malfunction and the ball valve would not open which required…

life at the beach

life at the beach

After San Diego, we headed a little north of Oceanside, CA to Del MAr Beach on Camp Pendleton, which has RV sites with full hook up right on the beach for around $40 a night.  We set up in the second row for some beach time. We did some sightseeing in Oceanside, walked out on the public pier, walked a little around. We also watch the maries playing in the bay and ocean with their Amphibious Craft.  One night they…
