Lost Dutchman State Park

Lost Dutchman State Park

We moved from Catalina State Park towards the Phoenix area and into a nearby town of Apache Junction where there is an outstanding state park called Lost Dutchman right at the foot of the Superstition Mountains and you guessed it the location some say of the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine.  This mountain rises out of the desert and is spectacular to see.   Nearby is a old mining town called Goldfield We did grab a quick dinner at the Mammoth…

Catalina State Park and Family Visit

Catalina State Park and Family Visit

Due to some reviews from fellow bloggers, I was excited to get reservations to Catalina State Park on the North side of Tucson Az.  Eric and Tina run a fish hatchery in South Dakota for 8 months of the year and then run south to Az to do some hiking and biking in the winter months.   They have a nice you tube channel called “GoneNoMad” and due to their recommendations, I decided to try a few Arizona State Parks….

Solar Install

Solar Install

In a previous post I discussed the design of the solar system I was going to put into the RV.  This is our Christmas present for the RV this year. The work was done by Greg who runs RV Solar Solutions.  We agreed to meet at Lazy L&L campground near Canyon Lake,  which is north of San Antonio, just in the start of Texas Hill Country.  The closest town is New Braunfels, Tx.  The campground sits right on the Guadalupe River and…

Tiffin Service Center

Tiffin Service Center

Once you need service or repairs, you can take the RV to a Tiffin dealer or you can make the trip to Red Bay, Alabama where Tiffin’s are manufactured.  Near the Manufacturing Facility is the Tiffin Service Center and Campground. Here is what the service center and campground looks like.   All in all, we had to wait three days to get into the Express bay and were in for about 4 hours do to the side seal taking longer…

Coach Automation 101

Coach Automation 101

So most of the coach controls for lighting, vent fans, shades and such are controlled by several touch panels that are around the RV.  Each panel is set to control those things nearby, so the shades control is in the main salon panel.  But what if your sitting down and don’t want to get up to change something? Two Tiffin owners got together and created a simple computer to plug into the control system used on the RV to allow…

first week of deployment…

first week of deployment…

Well, we have been on the road for almost a week, we left DC on Tuesday morning, and drove to Norfolk, VA for 2 days, then drove down to Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Base near New Bern, NC for 2 day and then drove to the Naval Weapons Station north of Charleston, SC.  I figured I would post some pictures of the places and what we have done.  The girls (westies) went to the beach for the first time,…

Putting stuff in storage….

Putting stuff in storage….

Well, the amount of boxes were starting to take over the office so I decided it was time to get a storage unit to start putting stuff we have to keep in it.  I have a fair amount of model train stuff and we have photo albums, some electronics, my navy stuff, kids stuff that we want to save.  I expect it will only take up a small space as we are not keeping any furniture. All I think I…

Photo Gallery Options

Photo Gallery Options

So I wanted to find a simple way to display images in a stack so you would not have to scroll down to the bottom of a page to see them all, so here is my first test of the different ways to use a Gallery Plugin: This is the Image Viewer, where you have a stack of pictures and you can click through them: Another way to display then in a Masonry Style Grid and when you click on…

Why set up a blog and web domain

Why set up a blog and web domain

One of the questions was why did I go set up a blog, why use WordPress software and go with a separate domain?   I was using Facebook to keep friends and family up to date on the RV plans and such.  But there were several things that I didn’t have control over, such as how things were arranged and how they were displayed.  Facebook was always changing the way it organizes your news feeds and more and more advertising…

Yorktown pre-deployment operation

Yorktown pre-deployment operation

So, I had to make a trip down to the Newport News area for a meeting so I decided to find a RV park and take the RV instead of staying in a hotel, a win-win since I would be saving the taxpayers (most, if not all of you) some money and I get to stay the weekend and test out the RV some more as we get closer to full time living in it. I was able to reserve…
