Change in Plans…

As we entered 2019, we moved to just south of Galveston, Texas at Jamaica Beach RV Park, right on the gulf. It is not as nice as Gulf Waters and I don’t have a huge patio area to work on projects, but it is only 1/2 the cost so it is a large bang for the buck RV Park. While here, we went over last year’s budget verses our expenses and it was not a good thing.

Our spot at Jamaica Beach RV Park

The townhouse has been empty since May and for sale without any offers. We have not gotten any income since January 2018, when our tenant stopped paying rent when we gave them notice to vacate due to several months of back rent being owed. As a result, our savings were practically depleted and I had to dip into my 401K to cover bills. As we looked into 2019, we were at a loss as to what direction we need to go in. We put the townhouse up for rent as we were without any purchase offers on it.

With the drop in the market and taking out 401K funds, it felt as were were hemorrhaging cash with no end in sight. After some sole searching and looking forward to 2019, we have decided to make some huge changes from our plans…

We have decided that we will be staying in the Houston area for the next 6 months at least. Cathy is going to start working at the local Closets by Design franchise doing design work like she did in the DC area. We will be staying at Northlake RV Resort on the north side of Houston. It is a very nice gated park with a heated pool, a lake, and nice concrete pads. I might look to pick up some part time work. The plan is to work to get the house rented, pay off some of the bills that have built up and get some cash back in the bank, so we can not need to dip into our 401K account. If things go well this may just be a 6 month delay in our travels, but if we need to stick around longer we will.

This will be our spot starting in February

Cathy has already meet with the owner and is excited to work at CBD again, the company is small right now, and she has been part of the huge growth at the Virginia CBD, she knows what it will take and felt right at home with the owner. She has gone on two design jobs and sold both of them, so she is off to a great start.

We have dealt with upheaval in our lives in the past and have no fear in this decision. We will stay in the RV, spend time locally and get back on track. We let our kids and family know just recently and decided to let the rest of our tribe know of the changes. If your ever in the Houston area, come look us up.

We did get a chance to meet up with my nephew Jed and his family who relocated to a Texas from California last year. They have three great kids that we spent an afternoon looking for shells on the beach…

I was also able to build a drawer system for the Jeep…

So stay tuned to more updates on our future adventures in Houston…
