The new Jeep has landed…

So our new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon (JLUR) finally arrived after just 3 1/2 weeks from order placement until delivery. Here are some of the pictures of the as delivered Jeep…

My Inspiration for the color choice…from my history…

U.S. Navy Sailors aboard nuclear research submarine NR-1 get under way from Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Conn., Feb. 12, 2007, making way down the Thames River. The NR-1 is preparing to conduct a visual and acoustic survey of the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico in March 2007. So first up was putting on a new bumper and I went with a similar model to the one I had on the last Jeep, a Rockhard 4×4 Patriot, mid length Aluminum bumper set up for flat towing. I also added a winch and appropriate shackles, LED light bar and towing pins with locks.

Side step from ROAM which included hooking up the lights.

Inside I used some typical rack enclosures from my IT background and built a frame for them…WE can put Jeep tools in one, dog stuff in another and extra clothing while still being able to get to the in floor storage area in front of it.

Next up was some new shoes…35″ inch tires to replace the stock 33″ tires and new rims, I sold the old rims/tires which cut my costs about in 1/2.

Next up was to rework the rear backup camera to support the bike rack we use, this was a one off, Kling Custom Engineering job…

Lastly add a few fun touches…

So here is how she looks today, 90% of what I wanted before we hit the road this summer…

The main reason to get a new jeep, with the Sky One Touch top…

So I am really happy on how everything came out and how she looks. I need to order and install the cable to run the lights when towing behind the RV, but I have done it before, just a few hours of work and she will be ready.

  1. That is one snazzy lookin Jeep! The automatic top is gonna be awesome. Having to manually deal with them, especially when you’re traveling in places with more unsettled weather, is such a pain. I’m sure you guys can’t wait to get back out west and start crawling all over rocks with that thing. Enjoy it!
