Ventura Highway…Beach Life

Ventura Highway…Beach Life

So after a few days in a weed infested RV park at Port Hueneme, we scored a four day stay at Point Mugu, right on the beach.  When we arrived, we walked around and found a spot facing the beach, only 30 amps, but who cares with this view out the windscreen….

Another great Military RV park, perks of being retired military, score a beach front spot for $30 a night with full hookups.  Compared to the Malibu RV Park that is on a bluff that looks at the ocean and costs like $200 a night, I think we did pretty good.

We took a drive into Santa Monica to meet up with two Nephews and had a great dinner as the sun set….

I did not get a picture of Paul, but got Stephen, Irene and Addison, she was great during dinner and we had a blast visiting family.

We also took a drive north on the Ventura Highway…

“Ventura Highway”

Chewing on a piece of grass
Walking down the road
Tell me, how long you gonna stay here, Joe?
Some people say this town don’t look good in snow
You don’t care, I knowVentura Highway in the sunshine
Where the days are longer
The nights are stronger than moonshine
You’re gonna go I know’Cause the free wind is blowin’ through your hair
And the days surround your daylight there
Seasons crying no despair
Alligator lizards in the air, in the air
Ok, I am dating myself again (America, 1972), but with the bright sun, driving along the coast with the windows down….

We also had some great seafood in the Ventura Harbor…
They also had a neat display outside of the base with some of the equipment used at the base for testing…below if the F-14 Tomcat, a very large fighter jet used in the cold war to protect Carrier battle groups and take the fight to the Russian Air Force with a long range (120 mile) Phoenix Missle
The missile connects to me in the past, since back in 1976, the Navy lost a F-14 and the new, top secret missile off Spain and wanted them back.  NR-1 was the ship that found both and lifted the missile off the ocean floor and several years later I got to spend three years serving on NR-1.  Here is a picture of the Missile on the Ocean floor…
We have had a great time here in Point Mugu…Now we are off to Vandenberg Air Force Base for the weekend before a week at Camp San Luis Obispo…
